HOW TO START YOUR CAR WITHOUT A BATTERY
Hey TeamMax,
This is your Uncle Max here, with another “Quick & Dirty, Done is Better Than Perfect” video. In this episode of the “Life to the Max Show,” we discuss a new way to try and jumpstart your vehicle when the standard way doesn’t work. I share a few other tips along the way, including:
• How you can get a small, portable, mini jump starter that fits in your glovebox/emergency gear, that can jump your car multiple times, or that you can charge your cellphones many times while camping, without draining your car battery down so that it won’t start in the morning.
• Example of a Good Samaritan who stopped to help, and had the tools to help fix a car; great example of the Golden Rule, “Do Unto Others as you would have them Do Unto You,” which is something we should always strive to do.
• Dads, help take care of your kids, this guy was awesome, with his little daughter!
• A possible technique to get a failing starter to work again, to get your vehicle started in a pinch until you can rebuild or replace your starter.
• Never get sucked into buying with a rebate, unless you compulsively force yourself to go home immediately to fill out the rebate form right then, or you’ll forget and be taken, like 80% of the “Normal” people who also forgot, lost money in the deal, and PAID FULL PRICE!
• A NEW TRICK TO JUMP STARTING: If your vehicle won’t jump-start, it could be a bad short in your battery that is drawing away all the power from the jumper cables; try disconnecting your battery, and jumping straight to the car battery cables. We did this and the 4runner started right up! A cool new trick I never knew before
• An intro to some heavy gauge, 25’ jumper cables I reviewed in another video.
• Why you should always have a can of starter fluid as well as jumper cables, to help get your vehicle started fast, when your battery is weak, and it’s taking a lot of cranking to get it started.
• Take your battery into your Local AutoZone to get it charged up/tested.
• Turned out this battery was bad, and my dad got it at Costco, and I was able to get a brand new replacement!
• A review of how to properly hook up Jumper cables, and a clever way to remember it.
• An Introduction to my new (old) ‘79 Ford Supervan Ambulance (Law of Attraction), that I found for only $1500, with only 28K miles on a powerful Ford 460 engine, very clean and well maintained, and that already has 4WD (which normally costs between $4k-$14k to convert). I plan on turning it into a mini motorhome for Overland Camping Adventures off the beaten path, complete with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, shower, A/C, media, awnings, etc, and a big slide-out bed for the wife (got to entice her to get out camping more), w/ a compost toilet nearby (once again, got to entice the wife…), that we only have to empty every two weeks. I also have some original stretchers for it, that I also located (also Law of Attraction), that can be mounted above the main bed, making temporary bunk beds. I can still use it as an ambulance during a major disaster in my town, an outing gone wrong in the outdoors, or an accident we might come upon on the road! Stay tuned for segments on that project.
