LDSPrepper Part 3 - Uncle Max interviews LDSPrepper in his portable tent home

Welcome everyone, to part 3 of LDSPrepper, where we finally get to interview him and talk shop about all things emergency preparedness and self-reliant living. In part 1, we briefly introduced his wife and daughter-in-law, while they were baking bread in a neighboring tent’s “stoven.”   In part 2, we got a chance to check out his “Glamping” camp set-up, see a couple of his camp baking options, and sample some of Sue’s delicious homemade bread, made right out in a field in a camping environment.

In this part. 3 episode, is where we get to actually sit down and talk shop with David, the LDSPrepper himself, and learn about how he got started with his channel, how he and his family survived multiple major disasters, from five different states, and how that convinced them of The Importance of Being Better Prepared and living a self-reliant lifestyle, so that they can live comfortably and stress-free, following most any disaster, including a major, long-term power outage.

Some of the things we discussed are:

  • Portable fridge, swamp cooler, bread mixer, fans, communications, battery chargers, etc, all powered by his Portable Solar Electric System

  • His top of the line & convenient water purifier that makes many gallons per hour

  • How his son converted a diesel truck to run on waste vegetable oil or used motor oil

  • Importance of learning to understand and read weather ( most disasters weather-related)

  • Why to have good “Comms” (Various ways to communicate in Grid down situations)

  • How his two greenhouses stay Warm year-round without electrical heating and grow bananas, citrus, and tropical fruit trees, etc, all year long

  • An optical solar disc Fire-Starting test I did during the eclipse, not far from his home, where I was able to start an ember with 95% of the Sun's light blocked.

  • A little of his work as a bishop (unpaid pastor for his church)

  • Intro to how to turn your Android smartphone into a portable radio, even if the cell towers are down

  • How his family survived a number of different disasters, including the Loma Prieta earthquake, which literally flipped his wife out of the water bed, landing her on her feet

  • The super importance of being prepared and/or to evacuate if living in the city, to avoid possible mass unrest after a power outage or other major disaster

  • A possible food and water storage option that can be stored in & under your bed

  • The importance of having an out-of-state point of contact, and using text messaging quickly following the disaster, and how the authorities will soon shut off voice calls and texting to the people, to reserve it for emergency services only

  • The huge benefits of having your ham radio as a backup to communicate, and some of the things you can do with ham radio, with a link to a great ham radio class that we both attended there at camp.

  • An introduction to the best preparedness apps to have on your phone, instead of games and depressing social media

  • An introduction to a “faraday cage” electronics protection option for your electronics and communications components, so they don't get fried during an EMP (electromagnetic pulse), a CME (coronal mass ejection aka major solar flare), Etc.

  • A discussion of “Normalcy Bias,” a common thinking error that lulls people into a false sense of security, causing them to think that everything is always going to be the same as it has been, that “That’ll never happen, or it won’t happen here…” so they fail to prepare, something we all experienced recently with this worldwide pandemic ( a run on food, TP, Masks, etc; how most of us got caught with our “pantry” down

  • The importance of getting your “Preps” out of their original packaging and start practicing and using them, so you know how to use them when you need to

  • An introduction to Risk Assessment, and how we identify the risks of a particular activity and implement mitigating measures to make it safer

  • How he and his family, should their house get burned down or damaged somehow, or they have to evacuate, can live comfortably and stress-free in their clamping portable home tent for a year or more

We also referenced the number of other classes or videos that I have captured in the past, and we'll put links to them as I find them in my archives, and make them available, so check back often.   A whole bunch of cool things coming your way!

Lots of awesome information here, and a fun interview with David, the great LDSPrepper himself.  Enjoy, and take Life To The MAX!
